[SinglePic not found]According to Information week it is estimated that Gmail would overtake the user share from Hotmail by the end of this year if it continues to grow at the current rate of 43%. It is also estimated that if Gmail maintains growth a little bit higher that the current rate, lets say 46%, it can even overtake the massive user share of Yahoo by the year 2011 which currently stands at 91.9 million users as of December, 2008.
So be aware Microsoft and Yahoo (if you are listening!) as these are the latest figures given by ComScore.
Between September 2007 and September 2008, Gmail’s visitor total grew 39%, from 18.8 million to 26 million, ComScore figures indicate. Windows Live Hotmail during this period saw its visitor share decline 4%, from 46.2 million to 44.6 million.
Yahoo, with 91.9 million unique monthly visitors in December 2008 and about 11% growth last year, has reason to worry, too. If Gmail continues growing as it has been, it could become the leading free e-mail provider by the end of 2011 or thereabout.
The new feature in Gmail Labs introduced recently which includes ‘Multiple Inboxes’ and ‘Offline Mode’ (can be accessed by going to settings in ur inbox) makes it a much strong contender in the email provider’s race.
In the recent past i have noticed within my circle of friends and relatives who have been using Hotmail and Yahoo for many years migrated to Gmail to such an extent that they are now online for almost 8-10 hours a day (ie. logged into Gmail). So what do you use? Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo? Feel free to leave your comments and feedback.
